How to tone your cyanotype prints

We get asked a lot what toning is. We made a video to show how the toning process works and what results you can expect from it. We used a toning solution and sodium carbonate which come included in our Toning kit.

Step by step toning

  1. Soak your print in water for 5 minutes.
  2. Bleach the print in a Sodium carbonate solution until the image fades.
  3. Wash your print well.
  4. Tone the print in the toning solution until it reaches the desired darkness.
  5. Wash your print in water  until it runs clear and let it dry.
